Westside Thanksgiving Day Dinner Celebration
thursday morning, me and casey volunteered at the Westside Thanksgiving Day Dinner Celebration. Every year, thousands of families, churches, schools, and other organizations donate goods and collaborate their efforts to host a large scale thanksgiving meal for the homeless and low income. in addition to their meal, local salons offered haircuts, and ucla med students gave medical check ups, cleaned feet, and administered flu vaccinations. there was also a clothing area, and a section where you could pick up hygiene items and blankets.
upon arriving, i was astonished to see that the line wrapped around the outside of the santa monica civic center. but while there were so many people in need, there were definitely twice as many volunteers. it was awesome to see lots of teenageers and even young kids helping out. it was just a fun way to spend thanksgiving morning, and really underscored the meaning of giving thanks.
