Camouflage Reconsidered.

Peruvian artist Cecilia Paredes took her floral paintings and became them, carefully using make up and body paint to blend herself in. Becoming a literal extension of her art is art in itself.

Maybe I like it so much because it reminds me of Garden State.

And it also brings me back to the days I spent at the mall as a kid, staring at those fuckin 3D prints, trying to see a unicorn pop out of it. I could never do it.

Subliminal Projects

I was invited to DJ at Subliminal Projects, Shepard Fairey's art gallery in Echo Park. That particular night was the opening reception of "Eve" a curation of art done by revolutionary female artists, each celebrating femininity through their respective genres. Always down for a girl power occasion, I was honored and thrilled to play. The exhibit runs from now until August 20th, do find time to stop by and check out the space and the showing.

An Education

Last night I finally got the chance to watch An Education, when a certain award-winning dialogue editor let us borrow his screener of the film. Thankkkkks friend. As expected, Carey Mulligan was outstanding in this coming of age story. But what swept me away was the costuming. Having acquired a recent penchant for classic tailoring and a sort of quasi-prepschool sensibility, I adored watching the sweaters, duffle coats, and trench coats move across a 1960's suburban London cityscape. Jenny was stunning, whether traipsing around Paris in an impressionist floral dress, or plaid-clad listening to Parisian jazz records in her bedroom. And speaking of. The soundtrack is beautiful, I downloaded it immediately after hearing Beth Rowley cover "Sunday Kind of Love".
