Lakers vs. 76ers

The first thing we did in Philly was not the liberty bell, nope. It wasn't a museum, nah. We went to the Laker 76'er game at Wachovia Center! The Lakers being in the middle of an 8 game road stretch, I was dying to see them play in foreign territory. We had unbelievable seats too-- 7th row behind the Sixer bench! There were tons of Laker fans, so we felt right at home.
The special part about Philly sports is the crab fries. They are basically a bucket of seasoned fries with a buttery cheese sauce, and a crab flavor? I'm actually not sure, I sort of don't understand where the crab part came into play, but the fries were very delicious nonetheless.I'd been to maybe a dozen Laker games over the years, and up until Friday the Lakers had had a perfect win record when I'd been in attendance. But this was my first away game, and I wasn't sure how my mojo would hold up. Thankfully though, the Lakers WON! And my perfect record is still intact!

I used to post a my Laker related rants and blog entries on sosupersam.com, but I've since shuttled those posts over to my new Laker blog, olympicandfig, which I co-author with D. Have a look-see: olympicandfig.tumblr.com

Jordan 1's in a Laker colorway. Thank you universe. It does not come in itty bitty sizes, but any boy I catch wearing these is an automatic friend of mine.

Save the Date.

The Lakers schedule for the 2009-2010 season was released yesterday! Click the image above to see the full schedule up close.

Notes:
- I love opening game, it is the best way to kick off the season, so I hope to attend that one. Plus the boys have their ring ceremony before tip-off and since I missed the parade, opening game is a MUSTMUSTMUST. Oh, Blake Griffin should be mildly interesting to watch too, sure why not.
- Hi MERRY CHRISTMAS Lebron & Shaq.
- Games on 11/4, 11/15, 1/5, and 3/27 are against Houston, and I don't think I can watch Trevor on another team. Unless of course we bury the Rockets and end the season with a 4-0 record against them. Yes, I am still upset about the trade and no, I don't want to talk about it.

In Lakers We Trust

Congrats my lovers on number fifteen! So ends another season of Laker cheers, tears, and beers. The lingering sweet taste of victory in my mouth is a sharp contrast to exactly one season ago, when the aftertaste of bitter tears rolled down a sad cheek to touch frowning lips. Another season of checking accounts depleted on ticket purchases, social calendars compromised by an infiltration of Laker themed parties, wardrobes with more yellow and purple pieces than one might be accustomed to, superstitions born and followed religiously. For the chance to run amok down Chick Hearn Court. Worth. It.

in other words:

AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Lets Get Physical, Physical

Ah the playoffs! There is nothing like a little plowing, jugular elbowing, and a little slap slap to spice up the NBA. The intensity makes me want to put on my neon leg warmers and do some lunges. After the technicals, flagrants, and suspensions are handed out, we can all hug and make up right!? Right. I love that the suspended Derek Fisher is tweeting live from his hotel room during the game! Lets go lake showwwww.

Whatever.Trevor.Forever

Any sosupersam.com reader knows how clearly fanatical I am about Trevor Ariza of the Lakers. But if you don't understand why, you should read this amazing LA Times article by esteemed sports writer, Bill Plaschke.

Thank you Alfredo H. Vilano, Jr. for this fabulous photo and caption.

Secret Project REVEALED!

The secret project I have so diligently been working on in my lab until the wee hours of night (no not really). Here it is:

A sign that I hand crafted for my heartthrob hunk TREVOR ARIZA at the Christmas Day Laker Game...complete with mistletoe over my head! I spent a few days designing it and Tuesday night creating it. I carefully wrapped it in plastic to transport it to the Staples Center to avoid rain damage.

IMG_3168

So of course I WAS DEVASTATED when my sign was turned away at the front door!!!!! Something about it being too big, or too awesome or something. I trudged back to the car in the rain, completely dejected. And then, my blackberry fell into a puddle. No sign. Dead phone. WHY ME?! This couldn't be indicative of the outcome of the game right?!

IMG_3169

OF COURSE NOT! The Lakers came out with a big fat W, and thanks to my mom's blowdrying skills my phone has been resurrected from the dead. And I guess I can still hold my sign up in my room for fun.

Trevs if you're out there, I so super heart you! And you get besos from me any day of the year.

CHRIST-MAS TA-COS!

Despite the pregame mishaps...the so super sign rejection, my so super soggy blackberry...the Christmas game was a SO SUPER success! My dad bought tickets for us for Christmas and it was the first time my family had been all together at a game since back in the Forum days. And oh what a game to attend!! Not only was it monumental for our family, it was a huge statement game in the seemingly sempiternal rivalry between the Lakers and the Celtics.

We hadn't seen the Celtics since they demoralized us in Game 6 of the Finals. With the Celtics steamrolling a 19 game win streak, and the Lakers struggling as of late, the odds were definitely not in our favor. I had been so anxious about going to this game. Would this be yet another embarassment by the Celtics? Would the outcome of the game ruin Christmas? Would my perfect win record of attendance be tarnished?

But what can I say? WE DID IT!!!!! Not only did we come out on top of a close game, but we held the Celtics to 83 points--CHRISTMAS TACOS!!!

Best game ever!!! Thanks Daddy for the tickets, and thanks John for my new jersey! Great Christmas gifts from my 2 favorite guys!

And I still have yet to attend a Laker loss...I'm starting to think I really am good luck??

Here are some pics! To see all of the photos from the game, go to my Flickr page.

What Women Want

A guy who pays attention to all the little things that most men swear don't matter.

A thoughtful guy who thinks proactively about the bigger picture, even when the ball is not in his court.

A selfless guy, who makes himself better by doing for others.

A guy who doesn't want the credit, he does remarkable things because that's just simply the kind of guy he is.

Trevor Ariza. Most women and J.A. Adande would agree.

P.S. - I declare! I'm not going to consume even an ounce of alcohol until the Lakers' first loss!!!!!

Lakers 08-09 Opening Game

OMG it's been a busy week but finally I get to post some pics from the 2008-2009 Lake Show Opening Night. I wore a costume to the game, ditching my usual Laker regalia and posing as an indifferent spectator. The arena was packed and seated before tip off which NEVER happens in LA, it turned out to be a complete blowout, taco night, free tshirt, free magnet. And to TOP IT OFF! Yes folks I, SoSuperSam, bodyrolled my way onto the jumbotron and gave the Staples Center 15 seconds of my most esteemed 80's dance moves. Like KEWL! It's gonna be a good season!!!

Opening Night Tee

Me and my pops :)

Excuse me ladies, I can't see...

...oh there, that's better. HELLO LOVER!

and then there was this:

LETS GO LAKE SHOW!!!!!!

10.28.2008

Oh it's on!

A Laker season of epic proportion is about to commence. And so we pick up right where we left off.

Ugh. Pictures are worth a thousand words.

Let me make that 1,236 words with the following:

Last season, the Lakers had a shaky start, a helter-skelter roster, and in no way posed a threat to anyone save for the Clippers. And we know the end to that famous story, "The Underdog That Could". With no expectations set and surely nothing to lose, the Lakers showed enough heroics and resilience to get them through the fiery Western Conference hurdles, but not enough to get them to the promised land.

This season, the Lakers are stacked with a deep roster, but also stacked with a huge chip on their gold and purple shoulders. Having proven people wrong before, they now have to prove everyone right. Outside of the Celtics, the Lakers are favored by critics to win. But that means they are also right at the top of every other team's take down list. They must climb that mountain of expectations set for them; where once their smallest feats were deemed 'remarkable', now every success will be mildly applauded, and every small setback will have everyone let down and questioning their 'championship quality'.

They'll never let me down, but they do have me questioning:
_Can the Lakers stay physical healthy and stay mentally strong?
_How many free tacos can we look forward to this year?
_Could Trevor Ariza possibly be my favorito for 2 consecutive seasons?
_Will Phil Jackson ever grow his facial hair out again?

LET THE LAKE SHOW BEGINNNN!!!!!

Jay-Z & The Palladium Re-Opening

Thanks to a very gracious but camera-shy friend, I attended the re-opening of the legendary Hollywood Palladium. Back in Hollywood's Golden Era, the Palladium hosted icons like Frank Sinatra, while starlets like Marilyn Monroe swooned in the audience. Now in Hollywood's Platinum Era, renovation was the theme of the night. Backed by a 12-piece band and a newly renovated DJ AM, it was only fitting that Jay-Z, the king of renovation and reinvention, be the first to grace the stage of the newly renovated theatre. Yup, renovation. Celebrities streamed down the red carpet and packed the upper balconies like shiny can of sardines, all to witness this moment of musical history.

Inside the Palladium

Me & Jennifer before the show!

H to the IZZO. V to the IZZAY!

Hov had a couple of political statements to make. In summary: BUCK FUSH....

...and vote for Obama.

Throw your diamonds in the sky.

My favorite part of the show: Jay-Z clicking through all his hits on AM's serato

AND FINALLY.....
THE ABSOLUTE HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT...

I MET ANDREW BYNUM!!!!

I lost all sense of decorum and went completely ape shit, chasing him to the bar and flagging him down to tell him he is amazing, how happy I am for his healed knee, and that I will see him very soon at the first home game. He did not let me take a picture with him, but this is what i was able to snatch:

Homegrown

This here is what homegrown looks like, folks. Trevor Ariza (Westchester HS, UCLA) & Jordan Farmar (Taft HS, UCLA) in the Lakers pre-season game against the Raptors. One week until the season starts! I LOVE LA!!!

Seeing Things.

HOLLA!

If you haven't noticed, I am a huge Laker fan. I will admit though that when I talk about the Lake show, a good portion of my analysis covers irrelevant and supercilious topics like "Who is hot?", "New facial hair/hair cuts", "Celebrity Sightings", "Team Uniform Design", or "OMG he looks like a (fill in the blank)".

So keeping true to form, during the preseason I keep doing double takes. Because two of our new Laker cats look realllllly familiar.

C.J. Giles.
Brandon Heath.

RYAIIIIGHT?!? Or maybe I'm just seeing things...
